German English False Friend Quiz

If you are studying both English and German, you will realize that both languages have many similarities. Very often words in both languages look similar or are even the same! But sometimes this is a trap! 

Answer my quiz to find out if you have false friends!!!

Bitte finden und korrigieren Sie die Fehler! Achtung: Es gibt nicht immer Fehler! 

 

1. Andreas arbeite gestern den ganzen Tag bis spät am Abend in seiner Schule.

2. In einem deutschen Café muss man nicht rauchen, da es in den meisten Bundesländern ein allgemeines Rauchverbot gibt.

3. Obwohl Andreas Deutscher ist, isst er weder Fleisch noch Fisch.

4. Weil ich bin ein guter Schüler, mache ich immer meine Hausaufgaben!

5. Ich verbringe an Weihnachten am liebsten zusammen mit meiner Familie und Freunden.

6. Als ich Student war, lonz ich viel faul anstatt zu lernen.

"to deserve"

My students this morning found it quite difficult to use "to deserve" correctly. Let's study! 
"to deserve" means you have done something and FOR THAT you have a claim to an appropriate reward or sometimes even punishment.
Examples:

1. The invention of mobile phones that needn't be charged every day would really deserve the Nobel Prize!
2. He is not a good man and he has no money. I think he does not deserve such a beautiful girlfriend.
3. The ice-skater's performance was great, but she only got the 6th rank. I think she deserved the gold metal!
4. He has never worked hard in his life. He only got rich because he inherited all the money from his father. He doesn't deserve all this money!
